Ayurvedic Foot Abyanga
In 1999, I was studying in Pune, India with my ‘Kerala Ayurveda' teacher we practiced many types of massage (abyanga). This one is done to get deep into the musculature with medicinal oils. The “foot” being referred to is the foot of the practitioner. A rope hangs from the ceiling to hold off some of the practitioner's body weight, and the foot glides on the oiled body.

Ayurvedic massage can often begin in the sitting position.
Here my PK teacher is applying oil to the crown first. |
