Ayurveda
Ayurveda is the science of life. It teaches us to become aware of ourselves in relation to our environment and the world around us. It teaches us to be aware of what we put into ourselves from foods, to sounds, emotions, smells and more. It is a science that isn’t just trying to extend life but is improving the quality of life.
Ayurveda is based on reading the body by the elements of nature and understanding which elements (fire, air, water) have predominance in an individual’s constitution. Disease is an imbalance of your natural state, and Ayurveda accesses which elements are out of balance to create a plan to bring you back into harmony.
Freedom Cole’s Ayurvedic practice specializes in chronic disease and Daivyapaashraya.
Chronic Disease:
Disease that is long term and degenerative in nature can be slowed down or halted. Relief from the associated symptoms of incurable diseases can be gained. For example, someone undergoing chemotherapy may lose their appetite or feel extremely drained of energy, this can be supported with the appropriate herbs so that suffering is decreased and healing occurs faster. A patient suffering from AIDS has many side effects, one that I have experiences had no saliva or earwax and his skin was cracking and bleeding. These symptoms were easily removed with the correct treatments, bringing enjoyment and greater ease to the person’s life.
Daivyapaashraya:
Treatment of that which cannot be understood with the normal eyes is called Daivyapashraya, or Daivyachikitsa. This branch of Ayurveda relates to disease that is caused by karma, or other non-material factors. When doctors are confused and do not understand a disease, each giving very different answers, or not being able to help at all, Ayurveda offers many remedies that can help locate the problem and bring relief.
See Freedom Cole Lecture on the specifics of Daivyapaashraya at the 2009 Yoga Research Society Conference.
“Only that which can bring about a cure is a correct medicine.
It is only he who can relieve his patients of their ailments who is the best physician.”
-Charak Samhita I .134
