Workshops at Shuniaa:

The Science of Mantra

Section I: 8th May 2009
Join us on Buddha Purnima (the Full Moon of the Buddha’s enlightenment) for a workshop exploring the background science of sound in the Vedas and Tantra. We will learn about the Sanskrit alphabet and pronunciation in the method of Vag-yoga (the yoga of sound).Students will learn how to focus on the origination of sound, the subtle associated mudras, and proper awareness of mantra. We will explore the letters of the Chakra petals and Sarasvati mantras.

Section II: 9th May 2009
The second class will begin with chanting classical Vedic mantras and learning about the associated practices: perspective (rishi), frequency (chandas), archetypal energy (devata), etc. Students will learn the Rishadi-nyasa of Mritanjaya Mantra. We will then learn to differentiate Vedic (classical), Puranic (Hindu), and Tantric mantras, as well as bhajan (devotional songs).

Sound is the root of Vedic and yogic science. Students will get a traditional foundation in the Science of Mantra. This study will benefit students of Ayurveda, Yoga, Tantra, Jyotish, or anyone who practices mantras or is ready to begin.

June 2009 (day to be announced)
Shavasana can be a deep grounding and centering experience that allows individuals to end their practice in physical balance and inner peace. Every moment and every breath can take us closer to the source; learn the deeper practices of Shavasana. This class is geared to teachers to help them offer a higher quality experience to their students during Shavasana, though it is open to all students of yoga.

Theoretical foundations of Shavasana:
-States of consciousness in Yoga philosophy
-Activating apana prana and conscious relaxation
-Sama-creating equilibrium in body and mind
-Speech-guiding consciousness and the gunas
-The science of Yoga Nidra

Learn a variety of Shavasana techniques:
-Meditation on activating apana prana
-Meditation on prana circulation
-Meditation on vibration (spanda)
-Meditation on chakras, light and inner essence

We will also focus on transitioning into and out of Shavasana in the healthiest way to allow for maximum benefit. And we will explore a variety alternative practices of Shavasana and its results on consciousness.
